Electrical Power:

Household electrical power is currently provided by renewable energy systems, utilising both solar & wind turbine. The systems are independent and very low maintenance. The household wiring, hardware and fittings have been newly installed to British Standards, and is currently configured to supply 240vac to all conventional power outlets and interior / exterior lighting circuits.

All normal household appliances may be used, including TV, DVD player, Hi-Fi, PC or Laptop, along with all kitchen electrical appliances. See Household Mains AC Supply below for further information.

Note, If required, a conventional mains power 'Grid Supply' can be provided in order to supply the property upon request to JPS (Jamaica Power Services).

Wind Turbine:

The wind turbine produces up to 13.5 amps, and supplies the main battery storage bank via a 20 amp voltage regulator (incorporating a 20 amp dump resistor to prevent over-charging). Voltage and amperage meters display both battery bank voltage and charging amps.

BP Photo voltaic Solar Energy:

The BP solar system produces up to 18 amps (approximately), and supplies the main battery storage bank via a 20 amp BP Solar voltage regulator. LED displays provide system status information and charge level indication. The regulator also provides the option to take a direct 12vdc supply if required.

Power Storage & Conversion (12vdc to 240vac):

The electrical storage system consists of a state of the art deep cycle battery bank incorporating carbon fibre coated plates, with a storage capacity of 1,760 amps (21KW approximately).

The power conversion from DC to AC is made with a 3KW (12vdc to 240vac) inverter. This system can be easily converted to supply 12/24vdc to 110vac should it be required. It is also possible to adapt the system to provide dual voltage (120vac and 240vac).

Note: The battery bank and power regulators have been temporarily positioned adjacent to the mains consumer unit located in the ground floor hallway, and would be permanently placed in the proposed new power room. Additional information can be found on the House & Land page.

Household Mains AC Supply:

The house supply from the inverter is via a conventional consumer unit (trip switched) to ring mains and lighting circuits. The consumer unit has been fitted with additional MCB's to allow for expansion, and to cater for all of the proposed new work and rooms detailed in the House & Land page. There is also one 50amp MCB fitted and wired to a single outlet, in order to supply high power tools such as welders / compressors etc (though it would be preferable to use the diesel generator to power such items if heavy or prolonged use is intended).

Note: Under normal use, the energy produced by the renewable systems usually exceeds the demands made by the house (or its occupants) during daylight hours. During the hours of darkness (sunset to sunrise), and without solar energy being produced, the household electrical system relies upon the reserve power stored within the battery bank, along with any additional power being generated by the wind turbine.

Under normal usage or demand on the battery bank (sunset to sunrise), full reserve power is normally restored by mid to late morning the following day.

Generator Back-up Power:

A 5KW Silent Diesel Generator, with electric start (cabinet type) is available to supply any emergency power or for tools or equipment that consume large amounts of energy, as previously noted.

Water Supplies - Fresh and Stored:

Domestic water is supplied via three internally built water tanks. Rain water is captured and stored for general use, supplying the kitchen and bathroom sinks/wash basins, shower, WC, and external rear garden supply.

Fresh Water Spring -

Fresh drinking water is sourced directly from the property's fresh water spring, which is situated approximately 100 metres from the house. See Development page for additional information.
